Does anyone have any experience keeping true Parrot cichlids? (not Blood Parrots). Every pic I see of them on the 'net, they have HTH disease! Are they especially prone to it?

I am thinking of adding one to a tank with a severum, female GT and a med-sized pike cichlid.

Thanks!

Kept them for several years, they are totally awesome cichlids, ABSOLUTELY love them. Definately recommend that you get some. They are remarkably easy to keep, aren't overly aggressive, and are STUNNINGLY beautiful.

About the HITH, it doesn't have to be that way. If you can get them before they have the HITH, you can prevent it. The first batch that I had I had for almost two years and they never got HITH....;). Varied diet and clean water are definately a must!

yes... i think clean water is the main culprit
when i had mine i started panicking whenever i skipped a water change (i tried to change 25% of the water every 3-4 days)
just need to be careful

I've always wanted one of these, probably to mix with typical SA acaras, severums etc. To the folks who have had these..they are very aggressive to conspecifics right, but not to other species (generally)?

they are pretty mellow towards other fish from what i was able to tell. i kept all of mine with clown loaches, which isn't the best gauge.
i've read from several people that they had large specimens that didn't take crap from other fish and laid a beat down. i can't comment specifically on that, but it could happen

They are indeed gorgeous fish. I've noticed them popping up more frequently at my lfs... it's really nice to see them now. Conspecific aggression isn't anything out of the ordinary for SA cichlids. With regards to tankmates, they're not really aggressive, but they can more than take care of themselves if necessary. Once again, Peanut hit it on the head. Clean water and a varied diet are a must.
