I was at a fish store the other day and saw an Aimara that was approx 7 inches for $1,000.00.
I thought about getting but for that price....Seems way high.

Why are these guys so expensive and is that price a rip off ?

Do they just sit on the bottom and do nothing or are they active swimmers ?

I'm looking for feedback before I make a purchase.

prices are vary from place to place, just go around and the check price elsewhere for comparison before buying the fish, here in asia I paid about the same amount of price for a 10", and they are hard to get. Whether the fish is active or not, its all depending on the tank setup. But generally aimara is more active compare to hoplias malabaricus, and there are some examples in the media lounge.

That's the usual going price but if you shop around you can find them cheaper. They are expensive due to how deep they have to go into the jungle to get them. Watch the episode "jungle killer" on River monsters. It's about the Hoplias Aimara.
