I recently saw this Hoplias genus Wolffish on the internet. It looks Aimara Wolf-ish to me because of the operculum's having the distinct black ovalish shaped spot. The other colors look species correct also, for Hoplias aimara. I came to the conclusion that the Hoplias species shown in the picture is indeed aimara, but its jaw is either extremely short from a genetic deformity, or the picture is showing the fish's head ,or rather its jaw ,abnormally short from the angle in which the photograph was taken. Anyone have any thoughts on this fish and the reason for the bluntness of its snout? Anyone seen another Aimara Wolffish with a jaw structure like this one has in the picture? Looks alot like Hoplias curupira(Black Wolffish) ,if it weren't for the fact of the black spot on the gill cover proving otherwise. Thanks in advance.3511367.jpg

You can actually compare it to my avatar, since it's right beside the Climbing Perch faced Aimara in the picture from the internet.

Yea definitely looks curu-ish. If you didn't state it was aimira It would be confusing for sure. It might be red sp or surinmae/tapajos sp. Could it be the photo as there is a bend in the body and not a real side profile shot? With the head turning to you.

I thought about those variables. I'm just of the opinion that 10 heads are better than one for sure. The actual fish may even belong to someone who is a MFK member, for all I know. It's just an unusual looking Hoplias sp.. I think I can kind of see the oval black operculum spot very faintly. Does everyone agree that it's an Aimara? It's got a black spotted head on top ,like alot of the darker colored Aimara have. Looks really weird to me, but everybody has to be somebody! Lol. Thanks.

Probably aimira. There's a pic floating around on fugupuff's Facebook page and pfk forum that shows an aimira looking wolf with a smaller jaw and face. Could be the pic but can't really confirm where it's from. There's a hoplias patana that has a flat face as well. There's one pic of it available online but looks much different. Interesting pic. Maybe Wes will make a comment?!

It's an Aimara. Jaw looks short, because the fish was turning when picture was taken
