Hello,
I am looking for a nice specimen of Hoplias aimara or Hoplias ssp. I am not interested in Hoplias malabaricus for it is illegal in California but any of the others are ok. I am serious. so if anyone can help me that would be great.
Also I am a reptile breeder/dealer so check out my site at www.Helodermahorridum.com
Thanks,

just wait until ---xr--- gets wind of this. He has been looking for these guys for 30 years, but according to him there are less than 10 in the US. Half of MFK has been looking for an aimara. If you do get one, it will be several thousands of dollars for decent specimens. Good luck, and WELCOME TO MFK!

there are around 7-10 in the entire U.S, and if your looking for one your gonna have to get in line or be willing to spend a few tousand to get your hands on one, all the aimara's recently imported (last years) were mis id'd, i should know i bought half of them. most were balck wolfs. George at ssharkaquarium sometimes gets them in, though he mis id's alot of hoplias, so if he gets one don't think your dream has come true until it's properly id'd. good luck on your quest to find one, but when one does come in you'll have to takle a number and get in line, alot of people have found out about this great fish recently.

aquaticpredators.com has a guy claiming to have just purchased Hoplias aimara, that was captive bred. check it out it

seen the link and i don't beleive it, i'd like to see it again if you can show it. never saw the fish so i can't id them, i'd bet my monthly income they werent goliaths, malas are the only hoplias i've ever heard of being bred in captivity.

It's not an aimara. I can't see the pics either, but that's because the thread is from 2004. They haven't been properly ID'd by hobbiests until about 2 years ago or so. It's more than likely that that wolf was a mala.

I think George has mentioned he has a 3 foot aimara for 3k and people who have seen it say it is a aimara.
