I bought a Hoplias sold as australis but it looks alot like a Lacerdae to me.

What is strange about this fish is that the gills under the jaw meet at the tip whilst all malas i've ever owned had a slight gap.
My fish resembles his fish alot... But i think mine resembles Intermedius even more.
This hoplias is surprisingly mild tempered aswell.

That's hilarious he lets you get that close without freaking out. I'm convinced mine would bite the crap out of me before I got anywhere close to being able to touch him.
Not sure which one you've got here, but it is extremely nice looking. I don't know if lacs get their distinctive head shape only when larger, but this one doesn't seem to have the slope on the top like I would expect. I haven't seen enough intermedius or australis to be able to ID them by sight yet. I would have jumped on this one regardless though, nice looking fish.
