as i thought...

please tell me how big can they get ?? I read about 50 cm ? ist this realistic ?
I feed them with Goldfish feeders a few minutes ago........ :naughty:
they are little beast but not faster than my Channa asiatica

I'm not sure siciliano, they kind of look like a mal but they are not showing signs of a lateral line yet. Maybe they are too small. Wait a white, if a lateral line appears at all then they are malabaricus.

I had 1, it was very boring, I much prefer snakeheads.

Yes can get to 50cm I had one a few years back and as rumblesushi rightly
said they don’t do a lot during the day but play murder at night my one ate or bit chunks out of most of its tank mates but in the end the only thing I thought that might be ok with him ate him but once again as rumblesushi said this was a red snakehead so snakehead 1 wolfish 0. But then again I quite liked my one just love that smile. Try mussels cheaper and better for them.

Hi,

I`ve seen some malabaricus Pics and they all had a lateral line mines are much darker.... I donth think anymore that this guys are malabaricus...... we will see .....

Yes i prefer snakeheads too....

Microlepis and malabracus are very simular. They both have lateral line stripes and the microlepis is a a more narrow fish with 14 rays on dorsal fin. That Fishbase picture is very decieving due to that lack lateral line stripe, but even mala can show no stripe when stressed. The biggest difference is that Micro Max out at 12" and mala can get up to 30."
Lacerdae is a complete different fish all togther. They show no predominate lateral line. They have a complete different body shape and in this I mean eye placement, dorsal fin placement, jaw shape teeth shape. They also get an up to a reported 48" for the lower xingu strain

Ecuadorian Microlepis(Notice the narrow body)

Here is a very rare Amapa H.malabarcus

Hope this helps out a bit.

Those are H. malabaricus for sure... They don't show a lateral line all the time... Mine does only when he is chasing feeders. At any other time he is dark brown/ochre ;)
