Hey everyone,
I have a 6- 8 in hornet cichlid by its self in a 55gal. I am feeding pellets and a verity of frozen food. I due a 50% water change ever two weeks. He unforntunatley still doesnt have the greatest color in the world. What should I do to improve his color? Or did I just get a fish that doesnt have good color?
Thanks,

More variety of food. Also make sure the pellets are high quality. try some shrimp, bllodworms, soem veegies etc. He could just be a fish with poor color. Have you had him awhile? If you jsut got him he could be still stressing it.

I've had him for years and he has never really been much to look at. Although I just put him in the 55gal so he could still be getting used to his new home. Ill post picks tomorrow. And he has like this blue tint to hime, which I have never seen before on a Buttikoferi.
Thanks for the post!

yes it is african.

But is it buttikoferi or Pseudotropheus crabro?

You need to post pics of yours. that google images link you gave has both.

This is why common names fail.

common names are sooo worthless
