Hey guys. New to keeping hornwort. About a week ago I went to the lfs and picked up a bunch since I've never tried it. It did have a few snails which I didn't want taking my whole tank over, so I dipped it in a bit of salt water solution for a minute and then washed it and dropped it in the tank. Now fast forward to today and it's looking real shabby. I poked at the piece in my guppy tank and a bunch of the little leaves fell off. The only other thing I can think is that the co2 booster could have done this too. Here's a few pics (I have to vacuum today anyway so don't worry haha), the tank temperature is 79 or 80 most of the time, lighting is a single crappy t8 bulb with a foil reflector I made, no co2 other than the booster, with ferts once a week:

Do you think the salt dip did this? Maybe the co2 booster? Any hope of it recovering since it seems like the stems are intact? I've seen something like this happen before with my anacharis I had years ago. I did put a small branch of the hornwort when I got it in the 90 which has regular pressurised co2 and high lighting, I haven't tried to pick at it's leaves so maybe it hasn't melted yet. Should I just take it out and put it in a jar maybe?

I'm kinda broke so I'm mad I wasted my 4 bucks. Grr.

I think it could be a lighting issue. This plant actually needs strong light to thrive IME but pretty easy to grow aside from that

Maybe, the tank they were in at the store was low light and it wasn't super green there either. I picked all the dead leaves off and dunked the stems back in. Hopefully it can recover.

Yeah. I took the plant weights off. I also put half of it in the 90 which hopefully will be better for the plant to recover in. I guess I will see if it has improved or will even be alive still by the time I get home from camping on monday.

The salt dip dehydrated it,also hornwort does better with pond snails,as snails turn organic materials into chemicals plants use and help keep algae off the plants.

I highly doubt a one time dip(for a minute) would affect this plant, without residual salinity in tank

Anything is possible but it is a plant you hear quite a few reports of melting after transport
