Hornwort questions

I just bought some hornwort a few days ago and I noticed a few things w/ it. First, the tips are lighter in color on some of the plants. Are those the "buds"? If they are, what can I do to get them to reproduce new plants?
Also on one plant the tip is brown. Should I cut that off?

The different colored green is probably just new growth, to produce more hornwort just cut it into 4" sections and in no time you'll have more than you know what to do with, as for the brown just cut it off.
