Drop and let it grow! Just if you have any other plants, don't let the hornwort take over your tank and block the lights. Also, if you have strong lighting, hornwort will double in a couple weeks in size (that's my own approximation, it seems to grow like crazy for me)

i just have your standard light. however i heard it sucks nutrients out fast and you may have to use a fertilizer or it will die. what kind and how does it effect your fish?

If you have a standard light it will still grow but not as fast as under stronger lights, obviously. And, I have also heard that it sucks out nutrients, but my tank is pretty well stocked with fish and even with other plants I still have plenty of algae growing, so I wish it sucked out more nutrients ;)

It doesn't affect my fish in any way... One of my gouramis, when in a good mood, likes to build bubble nests underneath it. But, I cut it down today to only one or two branches, as it just kept moving all over the tank and looking like a mess. I do like it a lot, though, when it's not overtaking the tank and isn't all tangled up in a big mess.

I found Hornwort or any other plant that sucks out nutrients does not suck out nutrients to where you will notice anything. This plant is not a fix for having algae or too much nutrients in the tank.

no algae problems at all i just dont want the plant to not have enough nutrients. i want to get rid of my oscar and do a full planted pbass/amazon tank. any other plants that would do fine with my standard light?

In my tank I actually planted one end of my hornwart and once it gets tall enough (bending at the top of the tank) I pluck off a bit and plant that as well, takes a bit but gives a nice backdrop for the rest of my tank.

Hornwort likes fairly hard water, and is sensitive to sharp changes in hardness and light intensity. If it likes your tank, it'll grow like a weed; if it doesn't, it will fall apart. I never fertilize mine and it still grows fast enough that I have to trim it every couple of weeks.

it also is not particularly fond of higher temps as its a bog plant. no special fertilization should be needed.
