OK I was a bit surprised by this, my turtles are ~6 months old and my YBS has started attempting to court my map. He doesn't hurt/bite her at all, but if you've ever seen painted/slider types courting the behavior is easy to recognize.

If it persists I may separate them...males IME can be persistent and the map is of course unresponsive, I'll have to watch for any aggression. Mainly I was surprised they started at such a young age, he is about 4" long and the map is a bit smaller, probably 3" or so.

I used to have a male box turtle that would try to mate with my females every chance he got. I had to seperate the horny fella from the females to give them a chance to eat and sleep!

thats funny vicous...he would hump that much...you got yourself a good male to breed with then huh?

...I did have a good male for breeding back in the day. He was my first box turtle that I mentioned in another thread. He unfortunately escaped and was hit by a car. :( But the new male box turtle that I have has bred with both of my females a few times. Luckily he's a gentleman and isn't as horny as my first one!

I don't suppose there's a chance they could produce viable eggs is there? I mean, I could see hybrids within a genus but they are 2 different genera (Trachemys & Graptemys).

I've never really looked into any info on hybrid turtles before. I really don't think the two could reproduce but "hey", who knows. Both species have a different mating display so I don't know if that would stop them from hybridizing.
