horrible thing this morning!!!

i lost my H. Scomb!! im not the most sensitive guy but yeh ill admit i cried for about 30min i loved this fish! when i first even saw him in the store it was the most brutal thing i ever seen wit the teeth showing!

so i checked my water parameters my ph 7.2, ammonia 0ppm, nitrite 0ppm! im not sure what my nitrate is i need to go get a new test for it!

but the other day he ate 5 rosey reds and he was stuffed he even went around with just the tail of the feeder sticking out for about an hour on the last one he ate!!
im thinking it was he ate too much or something wrong with the feeders but i checked him over and i didnt see any parasites or anything!

but heres a few pics of the deceased payara RIP!

Sorry for your loss.
I always watch those fish for a long time when I see them at the store.

Glad to see that I'm not the only sensitive guy that cries when fish die. I'm so sensitive that when I gave away Mr. Shnoz, my TSN, I cried on and off for a week. :S

thanks but man my LFS said he may get some in within the next two weeks im not sure if im up to getting another Scomb but if thats all he has then thats what i get but it is pretty much my favorite. but there picky i tried and tried to get him to eat something other than feeders and he just didnt take and im not going to starve my fish over two weeks, sorry but i just wont do it!

Same. I was running out of catfish wafers, and they're expensive, so I got 5 lbs of catfish sticks from some website and my cats didn't like them. Someone told me to starve them, and after the first day, he swam up to the tank hungry and I had to feed him

Now I just give him cichlid gold food, he loves it

well only thing i can guess is he ate two many feeders! he was in the tank for almost 2 months and been doing great until this happened! i checked the feeders before i even got out of the petstore to make sure there wasnt any sick ones and even in the tank they came out of but i dont know im not sure what it could have been i keep the temp at 79-80f at all times unless there sick then it gets bumped up!

You can't 'see' the parasites and diseases that feeders carry. For the love of God don't give fish feeders! It may be now, it may be 3 months from now-but eventually they'll be the death of your fish.
I'm sorry for your loss, truly I am. But leave the feeders at the store.

like i said i wont starve my fish i cant help they wont take to anything else i tried everything to get them off feeders have you ever kept payara?? not meaning this in a mean way but im just saying from my experience and what ive read about others they are really hard to except anything that isnt live! i couldnt even get the little guy to eat silversides!!

and just so ppl know i only feed them to my payara and needlenose i feed all my other fish bloodworms,brineshrimp,krill,tubifex worms, and so on but i dont feed my fish only feeders!

please dont take this post as i was trying to be mean or anything i just wanted to further inform you bout my situation!
