Tried a search on here, didn't come up with much.

Didn't know they were rare until I researched them up a bit.
I picked one up at the Petsmart I work at a couple weeks ago, right now he's in a 5gal tank, he's about 2.5 inches long.

Apparantly from what i've read - they are found in fw and brackish areas.

Can anyone confirm that for me? When he grows out a bit more, I might put him in my 75gal, but not before he outgrows being a lunch item.

They are FW. Is that 5g cycled? They don't grow very quickly & not much over 3". What were you afraid would eat it?

Yes, the 5g has been established for a few months, currently houses some guppies and ghost shrimp.

I'm afraid my stonefish would eat it. I have two archers who may or may not pose a threat to it.

3"? Are there anything else that is called a horseface loach? I keep reading like 8-12".

Silly internet.

Looks like your stonefish will eat it then. I've never seen one over 4".

While I know my stonefish isn't about to leave its cave for food (he's lazy), and I know the loach will spend most of its time in the sand... for a fish that appears not to be a brackish-compatable fish in the first place, then giving its survival a less than 100% chance... eh.

I'll keep him in the 5gal until he grows a little longer, then move him into my 10.

Thanks for the help :)

I have 2 that are 5 - 6'' +/- and am giving them both away free with the purchase of my NGT.........check sig:)

You won't be able to keep it in your 10g forever since they can reach a length of a foot.

In any case, provide it with a deep layer of sand if possible since they're comfortable if they can bury themselves, not to mention that's how they like to feed, sifting sand through their gills.

Keep nitrates in check since they're sensitive to water quality.

Have you ever seen one that large? I just don't believe they get that big. I had one for 5 years in a 90g & it grew to 4".

It either wasn't an actual horseface loach or was unusually small.

Yes, I've seen them almost a foot long, and my husband's mom had one at one time that was about that big. The 3 I bought at the LFS awhile back were already over 5 inches when I bought them.
