So im looking at building a new monster. Im thinking U shaped, approx 1600 gallons. The three walls facign inward would be wood along with the two short bits that for the ends of the U. The walls at the back, would be wood. Has anyone ever attempted this? I'm really toying with this idea because i enjoy watching my fish adn feel it'll give me that fully enveloped feel. I have several ideas for the construction plans from 2x4 stacked, to 2x6 tight framed, down to 4x4 frames. does anyone have ideas? Ive been lookign at all the builds but not many get this shape.

OK well the water depth will be 30" it will be 12' on the base of the U and the arms will be 11'. the arms will be 32 from glass to rear wall and the center will be 48". I have a drawing i made i'll try and get it posted. I will see.Plumbing.jpg

i dont think blocks or a poured crete would be somethign i am interested in doing just yet. A bit to permanent for me. Ive been thinkign im gogin to go 4x4 sub frame, and then have my buddy weld up a angle iron top frame that has removable braces so i can get it in and out of my house in one piece. not to sure yet.

Hah, I felt the exact same way about going for a concrete block tank! A concrete block tank that needs to be demolished with a jackhammer seemed too permanent yet a 2000L glass tank that has to be built in the room isn't! :screwy:

If you've got a buddy who welds why not get him to do the whole frame for it? I don't think you need to use 4x2 for the framing with 30" water height, well designed 2x4 framing would be fine.

I had to scrap the build, turns out the distance from cement wall to lolly column in my basement is only 10 feet. meaning i cant dodge those things. First world tank builder problems right? Back to the drawing board.
