So, anyone around here like horses? ;) As my college grad present, my boyfriend bought us tickets to see the Lipizzaner stallions when they were in town last night. These are the horses that do all the "dances" and "ballet" type stuff, they're legendary. I took like 150 pictures or something, lol, so here's a few of them.

This is one of those famous moves, its called the Capriole. The horse literally jumps up into the air and kicks out his back legs. It was originally taught to these stallions when they were war horses...it was meant to basically lick any opponents away if you were becoming surrounded.

More pics...lol unfortunately this guy was taller than I'd counted on.

These last two horses aren't Lipizzaners. They're Andalusians, a very old breed of Spanish war horses. The Lipizzaners have a lot of Andalusian blood in them, which is why they were also featured in the show.

This guys was my favorite, he's gorgeous (Andalusians are my favorite breed anyway).

This guy was all sparkly, lol. He was "dancing" to some jive song or something, so they jazzed him up.

Lippizzaner's are in fact direct descendants from Iberian Horses ( not only Andalusians, but Lusitans also ). Both breeds ( arguably one breed with 2 branches ) are awesome horses, with an awesome spirit of sacrifice.

That is why they were the best war horses in the world and are the only ones that can tackle a wild bull in the arena. Nothing beats them in manouevrability.
Great pics.

I live close to Churchill Downs....does that mean anything?!

Seeing those thoroughbreds in person is an awesome site. Such beautiful and powerful animals.

Lol you're always saying how you like my fish selection, so here's my opportunity to be jealous of you! I've wanted a horse pretty much forever...was on one before I could walk.

I grew up in the suburbs and all the houses were close together and no extra land... and no horses around except for race track about a mile away.. i was 5 years old and already knew i loved and wanted horses.. i woke up one morning and saw two horses standing outside my window.. i thought they were mine.. but there was a terrible fire in the race track horse barn and these two had excaped.. from that day on i kept my dream until it turned to reality later on in my life.. i received my first horse for my 40th birthday.. i still have my beautiful sweet old Chugger..she is 22 years old now.. here i am with her a few years back..best day of my life when she won this blue ribbon not because she won first place but because she was MINE!.. so follow your dream...!

I don't keep anything that craps more than I do.
