What type of filtration do you have on your hospital tank? What size? I was thinking about starting a 20L as a hospital tank ,with some PVC tubing so the aquatic buddies can hide during treatment. Is it possible to maintain biological filtration while treating a fish with various meds? Anything else you can add tips/hints it would be appreciated...

I use box filters or sponge filters as needed. many meds kill off filter bacteria, esp. the anti-biotics and anti-fungals. It is best to assume that it will degrade your filter bacteria unless that specific meds says it won't like most of the antiparasitcals. Just use mechanical filtration with water changes to keep up with ammonia build up.

I use a sponge filter as well in a hospital tank.

It should work well with a sponge filter and a heater. Just be sure the sponge filter is aged BEFORE treating the sick fishes. Keep it on in another place, or in the hosp tank for some time before putting fishes and medication.

Best regards.

Daniel.
