Last night before sitting down to eat dinner I slid a quarter of a seeded cucumber in the tank and my 2 boys were having a blast watching my Oscar "guard" it from all of the other fish in the tank (even though he wasn't particularly interested in eating any himself) while they were eating their own dinner at then table. My wife gets this crazy idea to throw a chunk of a hot dog in the tank to see what happens. (Note: I know this isn't healthy and don't normally do it. Only "people food" is cut up tilapia and veggies). After begging from the kids, I relented and allowed it "one time". Into the tank goes a chunck of dog larger than I would have allowed had I been quicker to stop it. All the fish go crazy and the Oscar grabs it even though it is too big to fit in his mouth. He ducks and dodges all the other fish like a football player running for a touchdown!! After a few fumbles and recoveries, he manages to gulp it down. The wife and kids were cheering. Then we noticed he was having trouble getting it down. I've seen this happen a few times before and he always managed to chew it over a bit of time however after an hour, he was sitting at the bottom of the tank and still "choking". Kids were no longer laughing and we're now very worried. One kid suggested I do CPR but I thought maybe I could pull it out with a pair of tweezers instead. Went to net the Oscar and in the fury of him trying to dodge the net, out pops the hot dog!! Wheh!! Lesson learned to everyone... No hot dogs in the tank!!!
