I was looking at a local guy in my area's thread (he has the huge arapiamas and catfish in the 5000 gal pond or something like that) and I noticed there is a picture of him feeding his fish turkey dogs? Is this okay for them to have? What about beef hot dogs? It is just getting to the point where buying tilapia and market shrimp even from costco is getting expensive! Just looking for alternatives. Of course hot dogs would be every day diet but just as a money saving variaty?

Not a good idea. Fat content is too high and nitrates are through the roof. Better off buying the cases of catfish nuggets (broken fillets). Around here, nuggets are less than $1/pound for 10 pound boxes and above. Vary this with your shrimp and tilapia, etc.
If you have oriental grocery stores in your area, check them out too. I get 5lb froxen blocks of squid for $8 and 3-5lb boxes of frozen silversides for $11. Of course, they vary in availability but, you can usually find a wide variety of fresh and frozen foods for your fish for relatively low outlays of cash.

Alot of my fish, including arowana love cooked shrimp.. they are being raised in shrimp ponds now so you can buy usually on sale.. yesterday i bought 41 large shrimp for $5.99

Hmm I have never heard of the catfish nuggets I will have to look into that. The oriental store is a good idea though. I will have to check that out too. Right now I am paying about $20 for 2lbs of frozen tilapia or shrimp even at costco. They eat pellets too and I am thinking about buying in bulk online but I want to get a varied diet for them.

I use to feed my RTC's turkey hot dogs as a filler. Pellets, shrimp, mussels, squid and turkey dogs where their main diet. Different fish require different foods. So I'll say, Depends on the fish your feeding, and not for a main source of food.

geezus youre getting hosed!!!! tilapia filets are $2.39/lb at Winco (local grocery store) and i was paying $3.99/lb for large shrimp at an asian grocery store

and i would occasionally give my cichla turkey dogs. tilapia was their main diet

i don't feed most of my fish things like turky or hot dogs, but i have a tank where i keep baitfish and i just give them any leftover meat i have because they usually only last 1-2 weeks in there.

Ahh...You've seen Ted Judy's photos, Ash. Was very surprised when I saw his photos feeding them turkey dogs. Not exactly the best choice for a diet though.
