Okay, I know all about aquarium safe silicone and 100% silicone so no links to silicone please.

I've recently been working on a 90g river tank and I figured adding some grass coming through the river rock bottom would look real natural and nice. I purchased a bundle of plastic grass from AC Moore and had some left over egg crate that I've been attaching it to and then burying it under the substrate and covering it with rocks. I used silicone for the first batch of egg crate and it was a nightmare/pain since it takes forever for the silicone to dry and it simply doesn't have the fast drying effect hot glue does that will let you just stick it and let go in two seconds.

Anyhow, I have been reading a lot of d.i.y. decor via the net and saw people using non toxic hot glue with no negative effects. I then looked up hot glue in tanks and saw at least a dozen threads where people are using non toxic hot glue and not having any negative effects in their tank. They just mention it might not hold too well under water.

So opinion? I mean the only people I saw while researching threads that said "I've heard it can break down and release harmful chemicals under water" had never actually used hot glue and were just saying they "heard" this. (the second pic is the first one I did with silicone. I had to use rocks to brace them up while drying which was a huge pain)

hot glue is just plastic that is melted and re-solidified as it cools. i don't see how that can harm your fish unless they rip pieces off and eat it.

I had no idea that's what hot glue was but that makes perfect sense. Thanks for clarifying that for me.

I think hot glue would be fine thats actually a pretty good idea.

Thanks. Here's the appearance I got from the first two pieces I added to the tank. I think I'm going to trim some of those down with scissors because while making those I didn't realize I was doing them all the same length. Easy fix though. Excuse the murky water as I just stirred up the substrate quite a bit burying these.
