Here&There
I just purchased a magnum 350. It was a "luxury" filter - I was already getting good turnover and filtration. That being the case, should I use it as described in the instructions as a water "polisher," or should I just run it as if it were my only filter. This is first time I've ever owned or opperated a Magnum, so any tips or opinions would be appreciated. Thanks.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the polish is for intermittent use only, I seem to remember reading they clog up very quickly if run 24/7.

Unless you got the version with the bio wheels I'd say run it once in awhile for polishing if that's true.

For water polishing you use the micron cartrage plus diatomatious earth. For contonious use just run the cartrage and foam prefilter.

:iagree:

I have a mag 350, and you are supposed to use the micron filter for only 12 to 24 hrs to "polish" the water. If you keep the micron cartrige in too long it overstresses the pump as the cartrige clogs with small particles. The nice thing about the mag, is the large amount of carbon media it uses.

P.S. After you use the micron filter, soak it in bleach water (1/3 bleach) for 24 hrs., Rinse it out until it no longer smells of bleach, and then let it dry for the next useage. Ive had the mag for 2 yrs now, and still have the original micron filter.... It works great for cleaning the gravel too.
