was wondering when you do water changes if you can't get the water the same temperature is it better to go a few degrees warmer or cooler (not breeding just general aquarium maintenance)

matching the temp and ph perfectly is ideal of course, but when I do a water change on my 220 I use cold water. I just try not to change enough to drop the temps in the tank more than 3 degrees. some will say not to do this but its always worked for me with no problems that I can see.

As far as hot vs cold, I do not know, I would say as long as you do not change the temps in the tank much and you don't let the water spray directly onto any animals is probably okay.

Well this is a hard question
But what i do is
1. fill the bucket with water that feels a little warmer then my tank ( since its only at 74 )
2. i put some water conditioner in it.
3 i wait for an hour or two
4. i put it in the tank.

I must say it doesn't really matter what the temp of the water you put in is, as long as it feels somewhat close ( so don't be putting 93 degree water in the tank lol)

p.s One more thing is, if your tank is 100 + gallons then the water temp doesn't really matter but if its 55 gallons and lower then try to match it up a close as possible

I turn the faucet hot and cold on at the same time and open all the way, this gives you a sort of room temperature. Having been doing it this way for many years without any promblem.

I always go colder, mostly because I usually shower after I clean my tanks. It is very common for breeders to add colder water to simulate the temperature drop induced by a heavy rain as a trigger for spawning.
