my girlfriend asked why a gaboon and other such hots are so cheap when you can pay a small fortune for such normal non venomous snakes.I might also be wondering this.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Also, whats up with spell check,it insists I'm trying to spell baboon and not gaboon. It always is way off from what I'm after,is their a way to upgrade it or what?

I think one of the reasons they're cheap is that not many people want to keep them or have the ability to house them so they often go unsold for long periods of time. Then finally a person finds one for cheap after the seller has dropped the price multiple times and then it's snagged up. Supply and demand.

It's a matter of supply & demand.

As for spell check, this is the result of global outsourcing. Pretty soon computer programs will not be able to reconize the english language.:)

Also, other factors are wildcaughts versus CB, and morphs. Very few hots have any kind of morphs, so yeah compare a normal gaboon viper versus a BEL ball python....the latter is gonna be pricey.

its ration out evenly

Eg... $1000 for an abino ball python, if it bites you, nothing happen

$100 for a gaboon viper, if it bites you, anti venom and hospital fee $900+

both - $1000 :D

aint that the truth lol

More like $30,000 + stay.

Anti-venom comes varies from $2K to $5K a vile, and you need several viles in order to survive.

Then you have the hospital costs.

I never had or will keep hot snakes. Though I would suggest a local species like copperhead or something. If you do get bit, you can say it was a wild snake and your insurance will cover. Most insurance companies won't cover the hospital stay if you didn't disclose to them that you owned these type animals. When you do disclose this to the insurance agency, expect a rate hike. Just my 2 cents.

There is a guy in the ST Louis area that I know that was bit by one of his vipers. He lost a ton of money over the hospital costs. Not the brightest guy though. He bought an american aligator at 4 feet long and transported it in the back of his pick-up truck. By the time he got home, it had climbed out and was gone.

I agree, assuming it doesn't kill you. Hots are cheap because no one wants them.
