has anyone used a hot tub or spa heater for aquarium use? I have been reasearching and pricing Aqualogic heaters (made for aquariums) but they are very expensive. I have found some spa heaters online that are much cheaper and that i think will work. The tank is freshwater and the heater would be plumbed in-line to 1.5" pvc getting about 5500 gph. Any info is much appreciated.

The only problems I can think of with that plan is
A) operating cost. It will be quite high I promise
B) life of the heater. A spa heater isn't designed to run constantly like a aquarium heater and may burn out much quicker than you would expect.

I have had good luck with them. a simple heater works well, but pair it with an digital aquastat so you can get a range of one degree. much more cost effective thand trying to get it built into the heater. 1.5 kw heater runs around $400 and the aquastat is about $125 up here in Canada

Are you sure about the spa heater not running constantly? I have a jacuzzi in my apartment pool area thats always hot. Just the jets aren't on
