Setting up a drip setup to cut down on water changes. Tapping into plumbing on top of water heater. Easiest to access is hot side. Any reason not to use hot side?

300 gallon tank - 60 gallon sump.
.5gln hr drip into top middle of tank. Drain is in sump return pump chamber.

If the hot water is over 100F, it will probably be an issue during the warm season where water pumps from filtration will also be adding to the heat

This summer I avaeraged around 75 with no heater. Im thinking the half gallon per hour wont Effect the temp, was wondering what others thought.

I'm pretty sure you're temp will increase during the warm season, but by how much is the unknown

My thoughts exactly. Use an appliance tee and appliance line with valves so you can adjust both. Easiest isn't always the best in this hobby, I think without control you will one day run into an issue you wished you wouldn't, may be as simple as having to turn it off and redo it, may be worse.

OK, for sake of argument, if the hot would warm the tank up, wouldnt the cold make it harder to heat in the winter? Stupid heaters are already on full time to keep the 300+30ish gallons at 80. I think the heater are an obvious new burden on my electric bill. Ok, maybe part of this is also the sliver of hope that the hotwater will decrease the need for the heaters to run so hard. Dunno, just discussing. The cold side supply really is in the corner and harder to access if I wanted to turn it off, but not really a big deal. If it isnt a hazard chemically, I think I'll try to hot side and see what the effect is. If it can keep the tank warmer without the heaters working as hard then that is a bonus...righ?. If it does cause creep in the summer then I can swap them. Maybe I'll valve both like a faucet so I can adjust cold and hot. Hmmmmm.
On the drain in the sump I am using the existing bulkheads in the side that the return pumps could use. Moved the pump into the sump return chamber becuase the stupid thing was so prone to leaking. Bulkheads werent being used. Now, if the sump starts rising from overfill or something, it will run out the 1" drain on its own. No way to flood the house amymore.......unless something gets plugged. But that far through the sump, a mouse would have to chew trhough the lid and fall into the chamber to even get access to the drain hole.
SMH all of the stuff we do to try and make our aquariums risk and hassle free. Lol

I do a hot/cold drip on my tank. I don't want to cook them and I don't want to freeze them. I do not think running straight hot water is a good idea you will end up with a problem of not keeping the temp low enough in the summer and not being able to run it, if anything run a cold drip and use an extra heater even if it is more of a pain to get to.
