I am thinking ahead to my next project. I have the bug and it is driving me to fufill my dream Aquariums since I found MFK. My next Project I hope will be a 500G wood tank. my plan is to use the Glass from my 150G tank to build it. in it there are 4 usable Glass Pains 2 @ 40"X36" and 2 @ 20"X36" I thought it would look cool kinda like looking out a living room window just bigger. I had a brainwave on heating it though. right now I swear I heat my house with my Aquariums. I have a poiler in my house and hot water in floor heat. since I started adding Aquariums it never kicks on. my hot water is heated off a heat exchanger off the boiler so I got to thinking why not heat the aquariums with the same system. then I can drop using the electric heaters and go to much more economical heating and use Nat. Gas. I was wondering though before I go and spend a ton of time researching if anyone has any experience with this that they could pass on? thanks in advance

Add another heat exchanger and electric valves controlled by thermostats and with that large of a system it should be stable. If you have a sump, heat the water going into it, the water blends better & it has the added benefit of better bacteriologic growth.

Or you could just set all the tanks on the floor and say it's Feng Shui :D.

Any problems with evaporation?

huge I havent built the tank yet but the 4 existing tanks I have 135 combined Gallons I lose about 20Gallons a week to evaporation. if I take the covers off that triples. I do water changes twice a week as I have a rather Hi bioload right now my Aro and Retic are awaiting their new home which I hope to have the 150G set up this weekend if I can get the sump done and the holes drilled in the stand. that is my first go at a sump and it is 120G so it should be enough lol. Dr Joe your help has been awesome in my projects. Thanks

I think it would work too. There is an article in the new TFH that has an undergravel/dirt heating system. The same principle should work. And yes, pix would be nice.:)
