Is it ok to use ordinary salt as a treatment for itch or are there harmful chemicals in there? Need to know ASAP as im wanting to treat my fish before its to late!!!

NO, table salt is NOT recommended. Table salt can have other traces of addictives which might be toxic to your fish. Aquarium salt doesn't have any addictives. Bump temperature.

So bumped temperature and salt should clean the tank ? Rock salt ok or only aquarium salt. How quick does it usually kill as my LFS isn't open today

you should be fine. dont use anything but aquarium salt in my opinion. i have heard you can get certain kinds of salt that are ok from a hardware store but i never tried it and i dont know what kind. that could be an option but you would have to look into it.

I love the overreaction on table salt. Iodine is fine. The only additive to watch out for is yellow prussiate.;)

Sea Salt (not iodised) from Supermarket is fine.

As it's an emergency, clean gravel and filter/s and do a 20% water change now. Raise the temperature a degree every hour over 3 hours, add a teaspoon of salt per 40 litres. Add 1/2 a teaspoon tomorrow at the same time.

Do 20% water changes everyday for the next 5 days.

Hope all goes well :)

Like I said, the iodine itself is not the issue. It never has been. The concentration is far too minute to cause any significant damage on your fish.

Check water conditions too. May need to use an emergency dose of Prime or similar.

you dont want to use to much salt or the fish will be covered in salt making it look like more ich and you would add more salt for no reason starting it all over again

Thanks all for the reply's i have done a 20% water change and added 3 teaspoons of salt (55 galon tank) and am hoping for the best. Will keep everyone updated on my little saum.

Cheers
