Hi guys,

I have the following list of Polys split in two tanks:

1. 200Gal: 20"+ Endli and 14" Ornate
2. 90Gal: 8" Del, 8" Ornate, 4 X 5"-6" Endlis

Water Change regime is (believe it or not) 75% Weekly for both tanks.

Food for 90 Gal is Hikari Cichlid Gold (Sinking). Food for 200Gal is assorted fresh sea-food (Silversides, Prawns, Jumbo Krill and other whole fresh fish)

What will be the acceptable size difference when the baby Poly's can be houses with the 20" Monster? When will these babies reach that size (rough estimate)?

Thank you,
Sid

I had a 11" del in with my big ones which it grew up with, but I got a bit worried so put him with my smaller ones and put a 12" Endli in and he's fine, but a few years ago I put a 7" Endli in with them at 12" and within an hour it was in one of their mouths, she was ok but there wasn't much size difference so be careful

I'll say about 2/3 the length should be fine. So you are looking at around 14" and above

I currently have bichirs from 4" to 20" all together in the same tank.

They all lay in a pile a lot of the time, and I've never had any issues.

That's dangerous, but if it works for you then go for it.

I wouldn't suggest that to others, however.

Keeping cichlids together is dangerous.. owning an alligator is dangerous... driving is dangerous... but yet, it's things we all do.

I'm not new at fish... although my posts indicate that... this is a temporary user name I have to use until mine is fixed (mshill90)- I've been keeping this combination of bichirs for over 2 years, and have never once had an issue, and I am sure most that have done this can say the same. If you keep them fed, what's there to worry about? Mine are more occupied swimming around than they are trying to eat their fellow bichirs.

Power feed them daily.. U can keep 6"ers with 24"ers no probs..
Been there done that.. But still not advisable..
I am sure one or two ended up in someone's belly..

Believe me, I'm not trying to call you a newbie or anything like that, I just don't feel it's right as an experienced fish keeper who knows what he/she is doing to give advice to a newer hobbyist that takes some background knowledge before it should be implemented.

In no way am I trying to disrespect you.
