Hi guys, was wondering what kinda tank setup would be better for polys? I have seen tanks with plants, caves and all and I have also seen tanks for polys without any decor. Is there a difference and which will my polys enjoy better? thanks!

Polys are pretty laid back and decor doesn't really seem to matter, but if they had their choice...some covering such as caves and/or driftwood would be appreciated;)

I think a natural looking tank looks the best and is better for them. I have black sand, rocks and plenty of driftwood to make caves for them. They feel safer knowing that they have a place to hide if they need one and I think that makes them more active than being in a tank without any caves. Every bichir I've seen at the LFS just kind of lays there because they have no place to hide. But when they're in a tank with driftwood, they seem to be much more active.

They can eat the gravel and die from a blockage.

I think so too, mine is out and about all the time and she has some hides but only uses them sometimes.

If you really want gravel, get either one that is too large for them to swallow or finely crush them with a mortar (you can also get finely crushed gravels from LFS).
