Hi guys,
Right now I have four Motoro pups in a 240 gallon tank. They are fine right now, but I know they will outgrow the tank in the future, so I plan on building them an indoor ray pond in the next few months.

I have looked into cinder block ponds, wood rail types with a pond liner, etc. Then I came across this polyethylene molded tub. It is a spill containment tray. It is meant to hold a 1000 gallon above ground fuel tank and catch any leaks and keep them from penetrating into ground water. Pic below.

It is designed to hold 1000 gallons of fuel and do so while sitting above ground. Looks like a great size for a ray pond. Measurements are as follows:

Outside Dimensions: L 148" x W 63" x H 33" (3759mm x 1600mm x 838mm)
Inside Bottom: 130 1/2" x 45 1/2" (3315mm x 1156mm)
Capacity 1100 gallons

As you can see, the tank is ribbed and reinforced at the corners. Beefy looking thing. Place it on your floor and off you go. Overall dimensions are pretty ideal, I think.

I thought this would be a nice alternative to all the construction involved with building your own. A wooden skirt around it and I think you'd have a nice looking pond. Easy to move, and requires no drillling into the concrete floor of your basement, etc. You can add your own bulkheads if needed, etc.

Unit is 33" tall. I thought maybe fill it to a 24" depth.

Cost of the unit is about $1000 with about $350 shipping, so $1350 total.

Opinions of price and product? Seem like a nice alternative? Not cheap, but not too bad either.

This comes in a 550 gallon version as well.

sounds good to me....

I'd check to make sure that the plastic isn't coated with anything, or has any kind of anti-microbial properties to it and that it's safe for potable water. I've seen them all over up here (everything is oilfield related), and have wondered about the possibility of them as stringray ponds. You'll have to keep us posted.
