I want to get a new light for my 55gal. Right now I have a simple flourescent tube bulb in a cheap fixture inside a black box. It looks alright, but it is a little bulky on top of my tank. and doesn't really provide that much clean looking light. I like this one because of its low profile and also that it puts out blue-white light.

(Since this is a turtle aquarium, it has 2 clamp lamps that also provide light, however only in one concentrated spot. So this light would be to light up the rest of the aquarium.)

So how about it? I don't wanna spend a hundred or more on a huge t-5 setup as this is for a turtle tank.

Thanks.

Only thing i see is that the light is 36'' in length and a standard 55g tank is 48''. Also it puts out 21 watts of lighting and I think that is less than a standard 48'' aquarium light strip.------------------------------------------------Since this is a turtle tank. I would go to the hradware store and buy a regular 48'' twin bulb shop light. And hang it from the ceiling over the tank. You can find some pretty nice looking ones. They have them in black and the last one I got was in diamond plate aluminum. I think i payed 24.99 for it at lowes. And its is a twin bulb fixture and puts out 48 watts of lighting. And you can buy what ever color temperature range of light bulb you want.

Hmm that's something I hadn't thought of! Very cool but does the light shine out and blind you? or does it have sides that cover the light?

Oh and another question, do the shop lights come with a ballast and ready to just plug in? (besides buying whatever bulbs you want)

the lowes light is great... diamond plate looks retarded.. but it works great.. i use the same one on my planted 55... just upgrade the bulbs and yer set....
the fixture has sides on it so the light does not blind you... its pretty much a standard covered shop light... well... not prettymuch.. thats exactly what it is..

yep same one... 2 minutes with a can of spraypaint helps cut down tacky silver diamond plate look...

ive been using this light for months.. somehow ive yet to put those 2 minutes to good use...
