how about that rena xp3 on my 30 gallon? does anyone know if i can control the flow rate just incase its too powerful..... i have a 4inch JD with a 7inch pleco... i don't wqant the xp1 or xp2 because i can get the xp3 for the same price.... therefore, i was hoping the xp3 wouldnt be a problem in the 30gallon.... any1 got any advice? i compared rena and fluval and decided to go with the renas instead of the fluval. So can any1 help me?

it is overkill but
its not too powerful
so if you just want a xp3 (good filter)
your JD's wil be fine

thnks i been wating for answer for a while now... i dont want the HOB i think they are weak... i already have the penguin biowheel 350 and the penguin biowheel 100... i just want a canister filter... i wanted the xp3 because i can get the xp3 for the same price as the xp1... so i didin't want to abuse that chance

I would use the xp3 i belive bigger is better i have 4 filters on a 90 including a wet dry Ehiem i'm pushing over 1200 gph keeps the bio load in check,as for reducing flow rate you can cram a canistor full of wool this will slow down the output or use a regulator simlar to a python on the exhaust tube available at any hardware store hope this helps FNH..........

ok, so it will work right?what media should i use... i heard potscrubbers and lava rock were the best for this type of canister... do they sell this at the pet store or are they hard to find?what about floss, can i use floss in the first basket, potscrubber in the 2nd, and lava rock in the 3rd......i am trying to find them online, but cant find them... can some1 show me what they look like? sry im a noob at this canister thing.....

pot scrubber in the first (plastic) i would use wool in the second polishs water nicely and bio ball or spheres in the top i prefer Ehiem bio balls or Fluval bio spheres remember when you clean them use old tank water as clorine and chloramine kills beneficial bacteria hope this helps FNH............. (u can buy thepot scubber at the grocery store)

i thought bioballs werent good in canisters because they don't receive any oxygen because the canister is a closed system......

could be wrong always used fluval sheres in my canisters have balls in my wet dry
just assummed theres enough oxyen in the water to support the bacteria
