My boss bought a Fire Eel for our office aquarium about 2 weeks ago. The first few days he was very active. Now he is just sitting in his boat with his head poking out. We have yet to get him to eat.

What is the normal activity level for a 10" fire eel?

well they are not to active they normally do that just stick their head out and watch the activity. but they are supposed to eat krill ghost shrimp or Frozen blood worms that's what it needs but you also need to take into consideration that they aren't really an active fish other than that. question what other fish do you have in there also what substrate??

I have found my fire eel is rarely active in the daytime... he is usually posted somewhere with his head sticking out. I do see a lot of activity from him at night under lunar lights! He will dance around the tank with my clown loaches.

Have you tried hand feeding him? Defrost a piece of frozen krill and slowly approach him and wave it in front of his face... worked for mine first night home.
