Hello--

I got a call from my LFS that he will be getting some cyprichromis leptosoma Kitumba this Saturday. I've had a crazy hard time finding cyps around me and the ones online are way expensive. I really want to take advantage of him getting these fish, but I haven't setup my 60 gallon tank yet.

I have a small 5 gallon "hospital" tank that I'm going to use to hold my fish for a day while the sediment settles in the new tank--and seeing how fish seem to do OK at the fish store all crammed together for a short time, I'm not too worried about them being in a small tank for a day, or two max.

My concern and question has to do with what I just read online about Kitumba being aggressive - very aggressive. Although I care how aggressive they are in the big tank, I'm really concerned about how they will act in that day or 2 in the small holding tank.

I don't think I'll be able to setup my new tank for at least a week, and I think these fish will be gone by then. Not to mention the LFS won't be too happy since I'm the one that asked him to get some cyps for me.

Anyone have experience with Kitumba?

Thanks!

Cyps in general are very peaceful. I keep my current colony (mpulungu) with xenotilapia nigrolabiata "cherry princess" who are, by their nature, very skittish and easily stressed. I've never seen the cyps chase each other or the Xeno's. My only concern is the size of the cyps in such a small tank. How big are the fish your getting and how big are they. I'd at least use a 10 gallon tank. Or better yet, ask the guy at the LFS to hold them if you pay for them. I do that a lot at my LFS. That'll give you time to set up an appropriate sized tank.

Hey guys. Just wanted to let you know that the LFS owner not only agreed to hang onto the new fish for me, but he even cleared out one of his tanks to hold them so no one accidentally tries to sell them.

I'm 90% sure all three that I got are males--black starting on their dorsal fins and a couple have a color variation starting on their back.

I pick them up next week--very cool!

Thanks again for the suggestion to ask if they would hold them for me.
