Hello Everyone

If you've read some of my other posts you know I'm having a really hard time finding cyps in Southern California.

In order to broaden my chances of getting some, I'm wondering when I read that the jumbo variety of cyps are aggressive, what exactly does that mean?

Realize I just got out of a Malawi tank and those guys will kill each other if you don't know what you're doing.

I have a pair of paracyprichromis blue neons and although they weren't my first choice, I'm wondering if I get some male jumbo cyps if I'll need to get rid of the blue neons?

I ask because I think I found a place to get jumbos, but even that took a lot of searching.

Thanks

The jumbo cyps are not as aggressive as malawi cichlids. During spawning, the dominate male will defend his staked out territory and chase any intruders away. They don't go around killing other fish. At other times, the cyps are rather peaceful.

Here is a you tube video I found showing the aggression at spawning time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SOplTlQUgo4

Awesome, Joe. Thanks. I'll check out the vid.

It's awesome the way they school and will probably school with your paracyps, I would get 6-8 and add 4-6 more paracyps ( depending on tank size) , also Comps and Calvus work well with them. If you are used to Malawi cichlids this will be like a vacation.

Yeah, when I first saw my little shell dwellers chasing each other, I thought, oh no--not again. But that's all they do, is just chase each other--so the vacation has begun! :-)
