Well I am just about to get my tropheus and fill up this 55 that has been empty way too long. But I read on cichlid-forum the guy soaks his food in metronidazole to prevent the bloat from arrival! here is the article http://cichlidforum.com/articles/care_maint_tropheus.php(metro suggestion near middle under 2nd pic) but i was wandering how much metro should I dissolve into water to soak the flakes/pellets?

Thanks please reply soon because I want to recieve the tropheus by maybe wednesday!

You could just pre-soak pellets in water instead. Use flake food every now and then and frozen foods too. To my understanding, bloat is caused by too
many dry foods. Try variety, I've never had this problem and I don't bother to
soak pellets either.

The truth is, no ones sure about exactly what causes bloat. It could be one thing such as a bacterium or it could be a number of things.
The most important thing would be to keep your tropheus as stress free as possible. No changing their foods too fast, keep aggression low, keep water quality up and whatnot.
From what I've read it's most likely stress that triggers bacteria/parasites which cause bloat. You can soak the food in metro but don't expect the fish to go nuts over it. If they don't eat it at all make sure you remove it.

I scoop the recommended dosage of Metro for the entire tank. I dilute it in a container of tank water and soak the food afterwards. When I feed the medicated food, I dump the entire contents of the container, medicated water and all, into the tank. This will medicate the food and the water.

Tropheus have a long digestive track used for breaking down vegetable matter (algae). If fed too much protein or poor quality foods, the food will be digested quickly and waste will sit in their digestive tracks for long periods before being excreted. This waste can provide an ideal haven for harmful bacteria to flourish.

As mentioned earlier, keep up the water quality and hopefully you won't have to use Metro too often. Although, if you're going to keep Tropheus, I highly recommend keeping Metro within arm's length. What kind of Tropheus are they and how many are you getting?

have you actually done this?

Yes, I can assure you that Jake's done this. We buy Metronidazole in bulk, to stay prepared for any hiccups that Tropheus and other finicky fish may encounter. The directions/steps that he listed above are the same as what we do in shop or even at home, hope that it helps.
