well i was just wondering how agressive this guys are and if one of them could keep with a jewel? I know most pikes can hold there own against agressive fish, but a jewel is among the most agressive of all cichlids.

   Oh man that made me laugh!! You haven't kept very many cichlids have you? I would be more worried about the jewel gettin eatin or havin the crap beat outa it by the belly crawler than i would about the crawler gettin damaged. I kept my belly crawler with a pair of salvini...no problem.

I have had belly crawlers with all sorts of other Cichlids and larger non-cichlids. No problem at all. Just make sure that the jewelfish cannot be swallowed by the pike and you'll be all set.

well i've heard the jewels become insanely mean bastards as they grow, but that may just be when they are breeding.....which i may very well go for a pair in my tank. do you think the belly crawler would take a BREEDING pair or jewels, or is that too much?

Like I said - you shouldn't have major problems - I have done this before. My personal experience keeping quite a lot of Pike Cichlids in the past 15 years, I have lost fish to Pike Cichlids ONLY when they were eaten.

Bcrawlers are mellow as long as there are no other Bcrawlers. I have them with other pikes even. They are sort of a bottom dweller whereas other pikes are sort of roamers. As long as they arent infringing on each others ''niche'', they should be fine.

:iagree:

My female bellycrawler is quite mellow. She is about 5" and I have her in a 125 community tank with silver dollars, large tinfoils, large severums, clown loaches, a synodontis cat, arulius barbs and T barbs. There are also 3 bala sharks in there that are small enough for her to eat, but she has not bothered them.

They are pretty easy going pikes. Just make sure the pike has somewhere to retreat to if the jewels spawn. (Maybe a piece of PVC?)
