What r electric blue jack Dempseys made of,
I've heard people claim they r pure jack Dempsey but they don't have the body shape of a pure jd and certainly don't behave like one? I've heard several theories of what was used as parent stock such as:Jd x Cuban , jd x jaguar (doubt it),Texas x Cuban, and my personal theory:jd x haitensis(has any one tried keeping them at higher tempature?might explain some problems?)

Not hybrid I believe. From what I understand both parents have to be blue gene Jack Dempsey to produce ebjd offspring and only a small percentage will be ebjd. But I'm no expert.

there is no heterozygous or homozygous ....it is a "line-bred" fish and by line-bred I mean inbred so much the offspring are weak and retarded and 1/20 survive. I had EBJDs that had the shape of Jaguar cichlids and they died after 3 months. The genetics of these things is borderline pathetic.....the inbreeding explains the short lifespan and why they only grow 1/2 the size of a healthy Jack Dempsey.

Don't buy EBJDs, normal Jacks are already a fascinating fish w/ beautiful coloration and a wonderful personality when kept properly. To me, this is much the same as Balloon-bodying and purposely breeding for deformities. It's like taking critically endangered tigers and inbreeding them until you get White Tigers instead of doing the right thing and breeding them for a stronger more diverse gene pool, but not with endangered species.

People need to ask themselves are they in this hobby for the right reasons or just for the money.

from my understanding as a noob
you get a blue gene jack dempsey and a electric blue jack dempsey and they breed and some of the fry are electric blue. I think its a gene that is a trate from the blue pigment a mutation i read this ages ago to try and understand how they get that colour when i first saw my very first electric blue jack dempsey.
