this is a 29 gallon tank with 2 pieces of live rock and a damsel that is acting weird.

8.2ph
nitrite 0
ammonia 0
nitrate 20ppm

i am going to do a water change and see if it helps, but that fish has been in there a week and just started acting weird today. something seems off. i let the piece of live rock i added yesterday cure completely before i added it. it was completely fine as far as i could tell but i am no expert

well i just learned that 3 days is not long enough to cure properly. i guess that could be the cause then. it was good stuff though. the place i bought it from said it was cured already and just letting it cure another couple days on its own would be plenty. i guess i should take it out and let it cure more?

Yes, curing live rock is a process which is counted in weeks, not days...The issues with your fish will be due to whats been going on in the tank with the rock..realistically, the fish should not even be in there in the first place...but hey, thats just my opinion... ;)

lol i agree. A bit fast in adding stock. give the rock a while longer and all should be stable. You may see a spike in your ammonia again and if this is the case you will want to do water changes. if this were me id take the rock out, stick them in a vat and let them cure there, and add back into the tank. As long as your using the same water, nothing on the rock will die off in large enough amounts to cause any problem.

well i found something on the fish. it was like ick. just in a saltwater tank? it looks weird. i don't know how to cure it. a little help? I haven't had an ammonia spike at all though. i have had nitrates up but nothing else. i had an ammonia spike a few days after i put the first live rock in there but it went away and haven't had any ammonia problems since then.

a few options, 1) you could leave the tank alone and let if finally cure and risk losing the fish, plus a 6 week fallow period too allow any left over disease to die off, 2) get a skunk cleaner shirmp and add to the already fast stocked tank and see if he eats all the parasites, or 3) which makes the most sense of all is to catch the fish and treat outside of the display tank in a QT system, allowing the tank time to finish its cycle and again the 6 week fallow period to be extra safe.

I vote option 3, Personally you shold be monitoring all your purchased fish no matter how hardy for about 4 weeks before there added into your display system. Some feel this is overkill on smaller systems but your still putting money into the tank, so i feel its better to be safe then sorry. Good luck.

well the fish died today. i think it was stress related though because like 5 people were surrounding it earlier. it was after that that it started acting weird. i set up a temporary tank to put it in to let if heal, and it died at about 9 tonite. kinda sux, but i am letting the tank cure now. i found some stuff i don't like in the fiji stuff i bought from petco. i am letting it cure separately now. I don't think I am going to buy that stuf again
