While I was doing my rounds at all my local fish stores this weekend I bought a container of this cichlid food without checking out the label(it was on promotion).

Looking at the ingredient label how "bad" or is it?

>Wheat
>Fish meal
>Yellow maize
>Canola
>Soy beans
>Lysine
>Methionine
>Alfalfa
>Lime
>Sodium
>Chloride
>Vitamins
>Minerals
>Emulsifier
>Natural anti-oxidants
>Immune stimulant
>Pre-biotics
>Palatibility enhancer
>Astathahin
>Spirulina

Thanks

i think it depends on the % rather than what ingredients are?? could you put hte name of it up and the % of the ingredients in there

There's no way I'd use that. Do fish eat corn, wheat products in the wild...nope. Try Omega one or Hikari or the like. Usually if the main ingedient is a wheat product I pass, Omega One's first ingredient is like whole salmon or something like that depending on the certain "flavor".

This thread covers a couple recipes of purina trout chow and a few hikari products. http://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/forums/showthread.php?t=299025&page=3

This is quoted by Chompers
Hydrated forms of ferrous chloride are generated by treatment of wastes from steel production with hydrochloric acid.

This chemical is corrosive and harmful if ingested. The ORL-RAT LD50 is 984 mg K^-1
Thats in hikari cichlid along with other harmful material. Makes me want to burn my hikari products.

GET IT ON BANG A GONG!!!!!!!!! :headbang2

I am amazed at what companies put in fish foods as fillers. I have come to the conclusion as a chef that I will not feed human beings many things. I refuse to go the way of making money at the expense of the health of the people I am feeding.

I take this philosophy with me into my passion for fish keeping. If an ingredient is not in the fishes natural diet should it then be in their food we feed them in captivity HECK NO!!!!!!!!:grinno:

Besides it is actually cheaper for me to feed the food grade seafood and the like over buying the prepared fish foods. I do use the veggie foods though, and I do like feeding my fish insect laden foods used for reptiles as well

Seems like im down to only omega one then as i can't find any NLS.

try petsolutions.com or bigalsonline.com. you'll save money ordering NLS online anyways, and there's no other fish food out there that comes close.
