Hello all, some may of seen my TSNxRT and what he had recently had for its late supper the other nite. Its got me thinking as my hybrid is 11 inch and the silver aro was 9 inch, now i knew they can eat large fish, and also aro`s easy become food for them do to the shape of the aro, but when the food is very near or the same size in a way shocked me, i was, well still am building a new tank to seperate them but i was to late .
I have been told that a say 12 inch hybrid have been known to eat a 6-10 inch fish as in oscar, severum which are a different fish altogether for a hybrid to eat as i shape.

I dont want to get rid of him but i dont want the risk of him eating the rest of my fish, i can home him without a problem but to have a 1500g tank for a few cats is a bit of a no no for me, even though i do like him so much, even though he ate my aro.

In the future i would be wanting to home him with some rays of around 15 inch and aro`s of 2 foot, and maybe peacock bass of 12 +, but by then he will be a good 24 inch+.

i see so many folk with the similar tank mates and now it gets me thinking about how long they last with these large cats, my cay was fed a few hours before with plenty of food bit still ate the aro so i cant see keeping them well fed can make a difference.

I would be even more devastated to have a asian red aro/large stingray eaten by a catfish, or even a any other fish come to think of it.

sorry mate. it was not that long ago i said to you about the aro. stay away from the rays aswell my friend and the aro they will just end up as lunc. if you can get large bass they should be fine.

Hi matey, no need to be sorry, should of been sooner prepared, sods law init hey, i am in a way thinking of keeping him but then theres a bit saying no.
You see many folk keeping rays and aro`s with big cats, seems mad the chance they are taking for them not to be eaten. The main reason i dont want the risk myself.
Just answered my own question/decision realy.

Why is it therte bad to keep with rays when the rays are so big, well say around the 18 inch mark or bigger, understand the aro as long and slim.
Even large upright swimmers. Dont think i would trust them with a P bass.

they will just fold the rays up i have tryed myself lol. if you get pbass large they should be fine.. mine is in with pacu and rtc at the min and 20 red eye tetra. there so small he dont bother them

I have a 4" JD and a tiny suncat with my 12" redtail, no issues at all, he doesn't even try to eat them unless he is two or three days without food then he starts investigating. My rtc is mellow though and very lazy. Never got live feeders either, it all depends on the fish.

My point mate. my TSNxRT was 11 inch and the aro 9 inch and aro was supper, i feed them at 7pm every night and feed him well, still ate a fish near the same size as him though. And nmever shown and sign of anyhtin ghe would.

Is it not in the back of your mind that your RTC will east one of your pride and joys, you have some small fish that can become on his menu, easly.
