i was searching through the net earlier and i was wondering how big black nastys get i read that males max out at 16" and not a size for females also that if you want to kee them with other fish a minimum of 150 gallons is needed although i diddnt find a tank size on there own.

thanks howard.

Black nastys can get 16" usually for males and a little smaller (13" more common) for females. They are, well, nasty! It would probably be okay to keep one in a 125 with a flowerhorn or devil if they were roughly the same size, but Nastys definately oculd kick a midas' ass.

males hit 16", females smaller, 12-13", 125 will do for solo pair, upwards of 180-240 to keep with other large cichlids.

ok thanks, i here that the females are the ones that live up to the name "black nasty"

while both genders can be equally mean, and males have more bulk, females do tend ton be pretty vicious.

Your kidding right? Midas can almost whoop any cichlids ass. My 8" BN backs down with its fins clamped from my 13" Midas all the time and I bet if I put my 9" Barred Midas with him the BN would be dead in a matter of minutes ( Barred Midas is absolutely insane my 13" white not so much). However my 12" Devil is also a coward and is at the bottom of the pecking order. They are all in my dads 240 along with a Beani except for the Barred Midas he is in a 125. Anyways I wouldn't go anything under 125 gallons with a BN anything that gets over 13" should be kept in 6ft or more. I would say upon FULL maturity maybe 7-8years you will have a 16" BN but they are like Managuense after they reach 11"-12" they slow way the hell down. FH I would say are a tad more Aggro than BN's. I will get pics soon. I haven't been able to get to my Dads in a week because of work, Snow storms and stuff like that. Pics are coming don't fret.
