depends on which species of cichla....... temensis and pinimas get around 3ft.... kelberi and intermedia get around 18", monos/ocells get around 2ft (maybe bigger)

yep as stated Tems reach 3ft.. monos & ocells usually 24inches..
youll have a good while in the tank you menitoned above.. try and go 3ft wide if you can..

i would go with the 36 inch wide tank but im not sure my floor can handle the weight. with the 36 inch wide tank would i be able to keep the tem in it then

it may be hard for a 3ft fish to turn in a 3ft tank........ but that should for almost life, if not life.......

personally i would go alittle wider, but thats just me
