I've had people tell me they get from 12"-14" max depending on the strain..

So how big do ZZs get?

All this with the consideration of a good diet/good water change routine/good tank size.

So how big do ZZs get? Usually about 12" I don't know the others but I think the same 12" to 14" with care and a large tank.

Just from what I have seen and raised I'd say on average zhen zhou's can get 12-13", kamfa based strains can grow up to 15", GM's and KML have potential to hit 12-14". Remember that not all flowerhorn will make it to full size and it is a lot of work to raise them to their maximum potential.

My kamfa is pushing 8 inches, he's in a 55 and it may be time for an upgrade...

Sad story, he died yesterday, he was officially 14 inches. Sorry no photos, he was not the prettiest of fishes for the last couple of years as he was dark colored, he had a lighter shade when he was younger. He was a blue dragon strain. He was dispose by my dad before I got to it. Not sure how he died, but we have two guesses;

1. The overhead non submersible pump fell into the tank a couple of days ago, he may have been electrocuted for a while but survived.

2. it could have been an amonia spike as it took me three days to get a pump, he was alone in a 6 foot long tank, he did not seem gasping for air when I installed the new submersible pump.
