Ive done some research but I have gotten mixed results one site said 11.8 inches others said they seldom get more than 6 inch in captivity I really hope its the 11.8 inch site is right

Yeah, that's about right. I know for sure that they can get to at least 10", but I think their maximum is about 12".
mine is about 9" right now...it has slowed way down on its growth since the 7-8" mark...i got it at 3-4" and now i have had it about a year...
I've only seen mine eat 1 time in the 6+ months i've had it. It was around 5" when I got it, & is still only 7" now.
