How big do the common silver dollar fish really get in an aquarium. Every web-site says something different (I find this to be the case for a lot of fish). I find most web-sites say 4 inches and some say 6 inches. I have also found several that say 8 inches. If all conditions are met and the aquarium is large like a 100 gallons how big should they become. I mean do all large fish ever get as large in an aquarium as the tag at the pet store says. Do tinfoil barbs ever reach 16 inches in an aquarium???

I would love to see pictures of some large common silver dollars.

I would have to say 8" at most. But they would have to have the run of the 100 gallon tank from a size of 2 to 2.5 inches.

This varies, depending on the species. Some do, some do not. That is why it's always a great idea to do as much inquisitive research on any large fishes, prior to any purchase of fishes. Don't always take the advise of the LFS owner's or employee personel, as gospel. Many times they'll give you misinformation, just to get you to purchase their retail goods. I have found from personal experience they have a tendancy to give you only 10 to 15 percent of correct information. Out of an entire conversation though, it's up to you to discern or detect what and where the 10 or 15 percent was located in the conversation.

I have only seen Tin Foil Barbs reach 14" at most in a 100 gallon tank. Again the same as the Silver Dollars, they too, would have to have the run of the 100 gallon tank from a size of 2 to 2.5 inches. It will most times, allow for faster growth with both the Silver Dollars and Tin Foil Barbs, when this is has been done.

Thanks :) .

I've seen a site that stated there are 20 different species and sizes range for 6-8 inches. I think your average Silver Dollar found in the LFS will max out a 6 inches.
