How big do Tigrinus get

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
My tigrinus is almost 2ft and wasn't the largest in the batch. Another member picked up a 27.5 incher. Most sites list this cat at 2ft. Axelrod's expedition pics/notes say they caught specimens in the 3ft range.

Who knows? They were discovered in 1981 and wild studies didn't begin until 1984. They haven't been in the hobby long enough or widespread enough to get any reliable longevity numbers.

Saw some photo it's around 3ft. But in captive, shld grow to abt 2ft. It'll also depends alot on the tank size u r having.

Joryu: Welcome to MFK!!!

I don't know why you think fish will grow smaller in captivity. That may have been true years ago. But, the latest products and information available to the hobby is now showing the opposite to be true. With improved water quality, availability of trace elements, and better and varied diets available, captive fish species are now surpassing their wild sizes. You only have to go as far as the galleries on the many fish sites here and overseas to see larger healthier fish than can be seen in wild caught specimens that have to compete for food and survive in increased levels of pollution.
