I assumed they maxed out at 5 inches in general, and of course females are supposed to be smaller than males, but I have a 5 inch female F1 Rio cornito, so now I'm concerned as to how big the males really get.
(Waiting for duanes to come out and say he had some at 8 inches or something)

If you have a female that big then I can imagine a male may get 6-7 inches. I don't think very many people keep them so you may just have to find out yourself. Maybe duanes duanes did keep them.

I kept mynae, which was at one time considered a color variant of septemfasciatum, but it is now given species status.
My males hit about 7", females 5", so being such close cousins, I imagine the septums will be the same

I kept the pair in a 75 gal (no other cichlids), and used swordtails as dithers.

Can we see pictures of your 5" female?
I always thought these maxed-out at about 5" as well, but most of the small cichlids can grow a bit bigger than often given credit for.

I'll see if I can get a picture when I get home, I haven't measured for sure but I do know she's bigger than my male platinum convict so she should be around the size I think she is. So far from what I can tell most of the amatitlania and cryptoheros can max out at 2-4 inches larger than what their max is commonly understood to be. (Sajica 10 in, nigrofasciata and cutteri 8 in, myrnae 7 in, septemfasciata possibly 7+)
I do have a pretty big male nanolutea, I always thought nanolutea maxed out at 3 or smaller but he is a comfortable 4. Maybe that's as big as he can possibly get. I can only wonder if kanna or altoflava get bigger than the size they're known to get.

A lot of max size projections are based on average max sizes found in nature, where predation by birds and reptiles keep only the luckiest from reaching max potential.
Whereas in aquariums (without normal predation), and if water quality is kept high (<10 ppm nitrate) I find those projections can often be understatements.
Most of the Amatitlania (and other cichlids) I have kept, have grown 2 to 4 inches larger than the sizes commonly touted as "max".

Both easily exceeded standard length size by over 2"

Huh maybe not 5 inches but still a little over 4, guess my male platinum convict is a bit smaller than I thought
Still big for a female and at least now I know what to look forward to in terms of my males the future
