I've been researching DIY tanks and craigslist for big tanks and I don't have the time to build one myself and craigslist in CT has no big tanks over 100 gallons. So I am wondering how big of a tank I could get a Petsmart or Petco with $500. Right now Larry my bass lives in a 55 gallon and he is already 12 inches long so I need a wider tank. I was thinking about a 75 but an extra foot would be nice for him to swim in maybe 100 gallon or 120 gallon. Does anyone know how much they go for at the LFS stores? I am going to make the stand myself I just want the tank.

if you live in cali you could get my 210
:D
with everything but a stand just cinder blocks

Around here 500 will get you a real nice 175 with a good wooden stand and a hood, maybe.

You could probably get a 180 if you look around, but a 125 is definetly possible.

you have to look for awhile to get good deals but i have seen 210-240 gallon tanks for 300-500 dallors.

just look around, it also depends on when petsmart and petco are having thier sales. i seen a 125g with everything but the stand for like 400-500. just keep your eyes open you will find something. good luck and post some pics when you get the new set up

My local Petsmart has a 125 with hoods and lights for $309. The stand is another $299, but it looks like doo doo.

Buy Petsmart's tank and use the other $200 to build a super awesome stand. That takes care of your $500 budget and you've got what you want.:)

A nice 360 with stand just sold for 625.00 in nocal and a 4' x 4' x 3' glass is still for sale with metal stand and lights for 500.00 here in socal...so a lot depends on where you are but if your talking new...I'd say a 125 is about the upper limit for 5 bills.

Are you asking about 500$ to get the tank completely set up, or just the tank?

yeah I just got a 125 off this site with everything but fish for 350... just have to look around.
