I am looking into getting a tank, that is app. 540 gallons and i was wondering how big of wet dry/sump would i need for this tank? and also how much would it cost to set up a filter that big? O ya, i have never used a wet dry and was wondering, do you still need to do water changes with one? If not can you explain that to me.

Any help would be much appreciated.

you always need water changes......read about the nitrogen cycle. the bigger the biological filtration capacity the better. I run a 55 gal sump on my 300. cost depends on if you want to build it yourself or not and what you use and so on.

alright thanks, i was just making sure. So would you say i would need about a 100g-110g tank? And i was looking to set it up myself, how much do you think that would cost

i'd use a 100 gal rubbermaid trough. price all depends on what you have, who, you know, and craigslist :D

lol alright, well on glass cages, they have an option where you can get a 100g sump with the filter setup for $600 for a 100g sump, is that a good deal?

$600 versus $150-200 to make a rubbermaid sump.

Your call. I personally would look for a used one with a good pump. If all else fails, but what your wallet can handle.

Unless you are actually planning to get like 100 gallons of media, a monster sump is excessive.
