hey guys , im about half way through my DIY 540g tank with a 150g sump , my Q is how many watts of heater would i need ?? i cant get titanium heaters in Canada but i can get them off ebay... i was thinking 2 1000w er's ?? I live in southern British Columbia and the tank will be on the basement floor (ground level)

The general rule of thumb is 3-5w per gallon. So 1620w to 2700w. 2 1000w ers sound good. (might be only borderline ok if you factor in the sump)

Its going to be FW , are stainless heaters easy to find? i just want to use 2-3 heaters instead of like 6-8 300watters lol ... i found titanium ones and controllers on ebay about 110 US for a controller and the element sound about right? there made by bio-therm are they good???

thats what im wondering... that heater calculator provided in the link above says im only going to need around 700w's  , its going to be in the same room as all my other tanks with all the equipement running and so on , its also only 20ft from the house furnnace and hotwater tank and it is in the basement , it stays cooler in the winter (not cold but u know bareable) but pretty warm in the summer for example today here is around 25C and its uncomfortable to sit in there without fans on.... so i think ill be safe with 2000w ...???

Much better to use that calculator than the old 5w per gallon rule.

Honestly, take a look at my pics , i have an indoor pond/tank and all i use is a 1000w temp controlled titanium heater and need nothing else... tank is preset at 79-80 degrees and that is fine.. i would go with two.. overkill... but try it with one and see what happens.. worse comes to worse you but another... but youll be fine with one.. im doing it everyday and have no problems...:-)
